With the urgent need for expansion, the FSU Primary Health clinic quickly started preliminary plans on a new, bigger facility to house the clinic. Given the basic core and shell of the building, the project entailed a complete interior design for one level of the building, about 21,000 square feet. The space required approximately 30 ADA accessible exam rooms, a large medical staff area, and a multi-functional community room among other areas.
Providing a space of refuge and comfort in a setting that is more often associated with anxiety and stress was of the utmost importance. With a heavy emphasis on accessibility and ease of navigation throughout the space, the clinic needed to properly and efficiently serve the surrounding community of Tallahassee, Florida. Servicing not only university students from the two nearby major universities, the clinic also aimed to help the less fortunate, often impoverished community.
